What is the preaching like at Faith Reformed Baptist Church?
We believe the primary means of Grace by which God brings about the salvation of a sinner is through the faithful preaching of the Scriptures. To that end we observe four principles in our preaching:
FRBC preaching is Biblical.
At FRBC, the Bible is the source of every sermon. Biblical preaching requires of the preacher diligent study and careful exegesis of every passage. The sermons at FRBC are preached from the Word of God in a verse by verse fashion. Biblical preaching is the explaining and applying the Word of God to every area of our lives. For this reason, we encourage listeners to follow closely in their Bibles, testing everything they hear to see whether it is biblical.
FRBC preaching is Expository.
Expository means the preacher takes one text or passage from the bible and carefully explains it to the congregation with application. At FRBC we seek to avoid a "proof text" or topical mentality in our preaching and encourage spiritual growth through studying each passage carefully in its biblical context.
FRBC preaching is Consecutive.
We seek to understand biblical passages contextually and systematically to the whole of Scripture studying both the Old and New Testaments. Therefore we enjoy deeper understanding, learning and wisdom when we study through the Scriptures verse by verse within a single book or epistle. Consecutive preaching is the typical style at FRBC even when we preach topically. However, you will encounter times when single stand-alone sermons are appropriate and helpful.
FRBC preaching is Applicatory
Biblical sermons are aimed at the heart but are never effective if they do not challenge the intellect and spiritual understanding of a person. It is not enough to see the doctrine in the Scripture. True preaching applies doctrine to our lives and accompanied by the work of the Holy Spirit, convinces men of sin and righteousness. Such challenges from sermons cause us to grow as churchmen, spouses, parents, children, siblings, managers, employees and neighbors. The primary application of preaching is urging people everywhere to repent of their sins, to believe, obey and serve Jesus Christ, the sinless King of Glory.
